Solving the 2nd Layer
Goal: To put edge pieces into the correct place between two centres
**To be done with the completed layer facing down**
Here is the printable page for the algorithms
Step 1: Look at the edge pieces on the top layer
Step 2: Match the front colour of the edge piece with the corresponding centrepiece (a very important step)
Step 3: Perform the algorithms
Two sets of moves:
A : (U R U' R') or 左上右下(only to be done with the left side facing yourself and while holding the left hand side with your left hand)
B : (U' L' U L) or 右上左下(only to be done with the right side facing yourself and while holding the right hand side with your right hand)
**To be done with the completed layer facing down**
Here is the printable page for the algorithms
Step 1: Look at the edge pieces on the top layer
- Look at the four edges on the top layer and find out which one(s) do not have yellow as one of the colours
- Choose any one of them if there are more than one
Step 2: Match the front colour of the edge piece with the corresponding centrepiece (a very important step)
- Rotate the top layer until an inverted ‘T’ is formed
Step 3: Perform the algorithms
Two sets of moves:
A : (U R U' R') or 左上右下(only to be done with the left side facing yourself and while holding the left hand side with your left hand)
B : (U' L' U L) or 右上左下(only to be done with the right side facing yourself and while holding the right hand side with your right hand)
After finishing the first set of moves (A or B, depending on the situation) , you'll find that the edge and the corner pieces have been paired up on the top layer. If they aren't paired up, something is wrong. Sorry, you have to do it again... But don't be discouraged by this. Instead, you should find out what you've done wrong and try not to make the same mistakes again. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time.
If you come across these two situations, what you need to do is move the misplaced edge piece to the top layer, or you can think of it as moving a random edge piece from the top layer to where that misplaced edge piece is, using either one of the two sets of moves (AB or BA). After this, just put it back to the right place in the normal way.
Two edges in the second layer are solved but the other two have swapped their positions
